Reserva Natural Bañado la Estrella
After the mountains of the north-west of the country, I crossed the province of Formosa in the north of the country. It's over 900 kilometres of flat land where I hardly visited anything, because nothing seemed attractive enough. The big exception was the Bañado la Estrella.
It is Argentina's second-largest wetland, with a reserve that protects almost 200 km by 20 km of this territory. As well as mammals and reptiles, the area is home to an impressive number of birds. The reserve is not very well developed for tourism and is relatively difficult to visit. There are only a few guides offering boat trips from remote villages. In my case, I was content to explore the reserve from a road that ran through it.
When I visited, the rains of the previous few weeks had transformed the area into a vast green space teeming with life. I saw several magnificent birds there and also a good quantity of yacaré, also known as caiman yacare in French.

This snake was killed by a vehicle trying to cross a tarmac road. I'm no longer on the reserve, but I'm still in the same ecosystem.
Un camouflage tout de même impressionnant.
