San Miguel

After the jungle, a few days of rest around lake Petén Itzá were very welcome. Many people choose to stay on the island of Flores, but I chose to base myself in San Miguel, on the shore of the lake. San Miguel is a very quiet village, and the views on Flores are spectacular.

Flores

Flores is the gateway for trips into the Petén jungle and its numerous archeological sites. It's a small town where strolling around is a highlight.

During my visit, the water level was very high. On the photos, it is obvious that the boardwalk around town is completely inundated.
